About the CEO
Ben Dwyer began his career in the processing industry in 2003 on the sales floor for a Connecticut‐based processor. As he learned more about the inner‐workings of the industry, rampant unethical practices, and lack of assistance available to businesses, he cut ties with his employer and started a blog where he could post accurate information about credit card processing.
As the blog gained in popularity, Ben began directly assisting merchants in their search for a processor. Ben believes in empowering businesses by providing access to fair, competitive pricing, accurate information, and continued support. His dedication to transparency and education has made CardFellow a staunch small business advocate in the credit card processing industry.
Credit card processors pressure small businesses daily, and managers have no recourse to combat the misleading information and price gouging in the processing industry. Small businesses need an expert to advocate on their behalf to ensure fair, competitive pricing and treatment. The idea for CardFellow was born to address this need, ironically, on the sales floor of a credit card processor.
CardFellow began as an informational blog in 2006, written and maintained by the company’s founder, Ben Dwyer. Ben wanted to provide accurate information about credit card processing and offer small businesses guidance on how to use this information to obtain fair pricing.
From Blog to Marketplace
The blog grew in popularity, and businesses began asking for help to shop for and negotiate with credit card processors. In the course of helping businesses, Ben realized that the task of shopping for processors could be largely automated through an online portal. Knowing very little about programming at the time, Ben taught himself to write code and began constructing a web application to connect businesses and credit card processors. By the end of 2007, CardFellow’s virtual marketplace was functional.
An Emerging Marketplace
With the launch of the CardFellow marketplace, businesses were receiving price quotes and interacting with processors, but the unethical practices that CardFellow was founded to combat had found their way into the new marketplace. It became apparent that CardFellow had to take a hands‐on approach to protect businesses. Business people often didn’t know the questions to ask to obtain competitive processing fees and had no way to ensure fairness. So, CardFellow had to step in.

Advocating for Businesses
In early 2008, CardFellow began locking credit card processors into a contract. This contract allowed CardFellow to protect businesses by dictating the pricing model and terms that processors could employ in its marketplace. The contract, coupled with its virtual marketplace, has created what CardFellow is today – the fastest, easiest way for a business to secure the most competitive credit card processing solution.
Our near‐perfect retention and its compounding growth will ensure that CardFellow remains a devoted small business advocate in the processing industry for a long time to come.
CardFellow’s marketplace service is 100% free and private.
As an advocate for fair and honest credit card processing fees, CardFellow leverages technology to put transparency and education before profits to help its clients find the most competitive credit card processor.
