Chase Paymentech Orbital Payment Gateway
Chase Paymentech, the processing arm of JP Morgan Chase, one oldest financial institutions in the US, offers a lot of payment services. One of them is a payment gateway known as Orbital. The Orbital gateway enables you to take credit cards through your ecommerce website. What features does it offer, and how can you decide if it’s the right choice for your website? In this profile, we’ll take a look at what Orbital can do.
What is Orbital?
As mentioned above, the Orbital payment gateway is one of Chase Paymentech’s commerce solutions. Chase Paymentech is one of the biggest credit card processors in the world, and Orbital is its proprietary gateway. If you’re already using Chase Paymentech’s other solutions, which include payment processing and merchant funding, Orbital might seem like an attractive solution because you will only have to deal with one company.
In 2015, Orbital won CardNotPresent.com’s Judges Choice Award for best e-commerce platform/gateway.
Can I use Orbital with other processors?
No. Orbital is proprietary and will only work with Chase Paymentech. If you’re using another payment processor, you’ll need to set up a merchant account with Chase Paymentech in order to utilize Orbital.
Orbital includes everything you’d expect from a major gateway, including hosted payment pages, a virtual terminal, billing management, customer profile management, an account updater, flexible integrations, and fraud prevention.
Hosted Payment Pages
For a combination of security and a simple checkout, Orbital offers hosted pay pages. The Orbital hosted payment page is securely hosted by Chase Paymentech and matches the look of your existing website for seamless brand matching. Customers enter payment information directly to Orbital secure servers via the hosted payment page, ensuring that businesses never have to receive or store data themselves.
If you accept orders over the phone or through the mail, Orbital’s virtual terminal enables you to enter your customers’ credit card data through a secured browser, which gives them and you more flexibility of payment options. Virtual terminals can be accessed through any computer with an internet connection.
Are some of your customers on a recurring billing plan? Do you want to offer deferred billing as a special promotion or collect membership fees? Orbital’s managed billing features let you do all of those things by automating the billing process so you don’t have to worry about notifying customers that bills are due (or overdue). You can also access customer account data through the virtual terminal
Customer Profile Management
Storing customers’ credit card data is a security risk. Orbital eliminates that risk with tokenization. Tokenization replaces sensitive data (like credit card numbers) with identification symbols that retain the data’s essential information. Orbital stores tokens offsite, but you can retrieve the information at any time. You also control how your employees access customer data.
Don’t lose customers because they didn’t provide the most up-to-date credit card information when a card expired. Orbital’s account updater validates cardholder information with Visa, MasterCard, and Discover so you don’t have to.
If you have a storefront or e-commerce platform in mind already, there’s a good chance that Orbital will support it. The payment gateway’s site boasts that it provides multiple integration options to best fit your technical environment.
No one wants to lose business to fraudsters. Orbital’s Safetech fraud tools include real-time order comparisons to determine whether the customer is actually making the purchase, geolocation, and transaction risk scoring. Safetech encryption encodes data as it enters the POS system, while tokenization protects data in transit and at rest.
The Orbital virtual terminal offers additional fraud prevention services, including Address Verification System, CVV/CID, and Account Verification.
Address Verification System lets you enter a customer’s address and compares the information to the address on file with the credit card company. This option is particularly useful for identifying stolen credit cards where the user wants items shipped to a different address.
CVV/CID verification uses a three or four-digit code printed on the credit card to authorize the transaction. CVV uses a three-digit code found on the back of most credit cards. CID is a four-digit code found on the front size of American Express cards.
Account verification allows you to verify cardholder accounts without having an impact on the customer’s credit.
Online Access to Reports
You don’t have to be onsite to access vital data about your business’ operations. Orbital offers online access to real time reports. You can customize which data you review, and you can even access it on a mobile device. Available reports include daily transactions, settlement overviews, sales trends, and more. Reports are also available with generated charts or graphs for quick comparison.
Chase Paymentech offers a variety of payment processing accessories for Orbital clients. You can choose credit card readers for your virtual terminal, shopping carts for integration, and more.
Orbital is PCI Level I compliant, and Chase Paymentech offers services that enable merchants to enhance or become more compliant with PCI rules.
The payment gateway offers several security features to keep shoppers’ data safe. Orbital’s customer profile management function transforms credit card numbers into digital tokens, so no one can identify them. These tokens are stored offsite. There’s also a tool that lets you analyze whether the customer is actually the person placing an order based on his or her transaction history. Geolocation shows you where the customer is located, and Orbital scores transaction risk to reduce the chances of fraud.
Chase Paymentech’s Safetech encryption claims it’s different than other forms of encryptions, because it transforms data into an unbreakable code when it enters the POS system, as opposed to later in the transaction process.

Title: robust gateway
Probably the best thing about the Orbital gateway is the fact that it has an account updater to keep credit card info automatically updated when cards expire. The downside is that Orbital can only be used with Chase Paymentech.
