The UniPay gateway is a payment processing gateway created by United Thinkers. The company offers a choice of platforms, including a cloud-based system or a system designed for large businesses to bring payments in-house. It works with multiple processors and provides a range of features for card acceptance.
UniPay Gateway Features
The UniPay gateway is made up of “modules” – UniCharge, UniBill, UniBroker, and UniRead.
The UniCharge module is what enables payment processing through a credit card processor, while UniRead is an EMV terminal solution that accepts chip card payments through the cloud using Ingenico and Verifone card readers. UniBill is UniPay’s recurring billing solution, which works in conjunction with UniPay for businesses that need to accept payments on a recurring basis. UniBroker deals with security and data to help ensure PCI compliance and will be discussed later in this article, under Security.
UniCharge offers support for processing credit and debit cards, including PIN-based debit. You’ll also be able to accept HSA and FSA cards, EBT, and provide Level 2 and Level 3 enhanced data for B2B transactions.

The UniBill recurring billing module allows you to securely store customers’ credit card details for repeat transactions, like monthly memberships. You can set up payment plans, make notes on accounts, and adjust payment amounts. Additionally, a customer portal allows your customers to update their payment information, review past payments, download contracts, and more.
UniBill gives you the option of adding late fees or fees for declined transactions. You may also be able to set up an automatic card updater, which can help reduce declines from expired cards.
The good news is that the UniPay gateway works with a ton of processors, which gives you more flexibility to choose the payment processing company that’s right for your business. Below is the list of compatible processors available on UniPay’s website:
As you can see from the screenshot, UniPay is compatible with Elavon, First Data, Evo, American Express, Heartland, TSYS, Vantiv, WorldPay and more.
UniPay Gateway Costs
UniPay’s website specifies that it offers three choices for gateway options, each with different pricing. The available options are Cloud, Hosted, and On Premises.
The cloud solution is designed as a traditional payment gateway available through payment processors. It’s intended to be a quick way to get set up with processing to accept cards, process refunds, and more. On the flip side, transaction costs are higher than with other options and you won’t be able to control the branding as much. You can choose to upgrade to the hosted or on-premises solution as your needs change.
The hosted solution is the next step up from the cloud solution. Designed for medium and large businesses, the gateway provides payment acceptance abilities in a system UniPay hosts, helping reduce your PCI compliance scope. This white label solution comes with lower transaction fees than the cloud solution.
The on premises solution is the top-tier solution, designed for enterprise businesses that want more control over their payments method without creating a new gateway. If you choose this solution, you’ll license UniPay’s open source software and can alter it to meet your needs. UniPay suggests on premises for replacing legacy systems or for businesses using the hosted solution that are ready to bring their payment processes in-house.
UniPay doesn’t list any rates or fees, but we’ve reached out to the company for further information and will update this profile as new details become available.

UniPay utilizes tokenization for sensitive data, helping protect cardholder details. The company offers the UniBroker open source solution for PCI compliance. UniBroker helps filter sensitive data as it’s transmitted, replacing actual numbers with one-time use tokens.
