For merchants who need to accept payments on the go, Pogo from First Data works with smartphones and tablets. Pogo allows businesses to accept credit cards, signature-based debit cards, and even cash transactions. The Pogo app is available for free download through Google Play or the App Store. The app works with most Android and Apple devices, including iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. Merchants can begin accepting most payments immediately after account approval and application download. American Express card processing may not be available for immediate processing, and could take two business days before it can be accepted.
The Pogo system does not offer a store-and-forward or offline mode, meaning merchants can't process payments if there is no available WiFi or cell coverage. The company recommends accepting other forms of payment, such as cash or check, if merchants are in a location that doesn't have cell phone service or WiFi coverage.
An optional card reader is available, allowing merchants the convenience and lower processing rates of swiped transactions. The card reader is available for free for new merchant accounts with approved credit.
Pogo offers administrator accounts the ability to issue refunds or partial refunds. Additionally, merchants can set multiple tax rates, accept tips, process rounded tips (where payments are rounded to the nearest dollar) and split a transaction between multiple forms of payment. Merchants have the ability to email receipts to customers, and can customize the footer of the receipt.
Merchants can choose to have alerts sent to their email, including a daily sales report. Additionally, Pogo offers free online tools to help merchants grow their businesses. Statements can be viewed via the dedicated Business Track website and the Pogo> Portal offers the ability to view real-time reporting, manage inventory, manage users, and more.
Pogo is only available to merchants located in the United States.
Pogo offers several built-in security features for peace of mind. Industry-standard Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption securely transmits cardholder data. The included Address Verification Service helps merchants confirm that the billing address given by the customer matches the address on file with the credit card company.
The app itself is password-protected and merchants log in with a user-chosen PIN. The optional card reader is encrypted, protecting data immediately upon swiping and never storing information on your phone or tablet where it would be susceptible to theft.
Pogo is streamlined for quick setup and transaction acceptance for merchants. The app is compatible with a wide range of devices, and an optional card swiper is durable and connects easily to any standard headphone jack.
Communication and Connectivity
The Pogo app works with both Android and iOS devices, including iPads and iPhones. For merchants who want the convenience and security of a swiped payment, the optional card reader connects to smartphones and tablets that have a standard headphone jack.
The small footprint optional card reader measures 1.5" W x 1" high.
The card reader connects to standard 3.5mm headphone jacks on smartphones and tablets.
