CoCard Atlanta Review

CoCard is a Georgia based credit card processing company, headquartered in Atlanta, that began in 1999. This CoCard review and profile will provide you the details you need when looking for the right credit card processor for your business. From CoCard reviews to rates to available services, we’ll show you how the company stacks up.

What payment processing services does CoCard offer?

CoCard has a range of payment processing services, including credit card, debit card, checks, gift cards, internet payments, and EBT.

Credit and Debit Cards

With CoCard you can accept payment from all major credit and debit cards. In addition to Visa and MasterCard credit cards, CoCard supports American Express and Discover.

As for debit cards, CoCard allows you to accept payments from the major debit networks, including Star, Maestro, MAC, Honor, NYCE, Pulse, and Interlink. Debit card processing requires customers to use PINs for security.

Checks

CoCard offers electronic check conversion and guarantees. CoCard’s Check Guarantee allows you to accept and authorize checks against existing bank accounts. You can reduce the risk of a bounced check by using CoCard’s verification service, which screens checks in real time to alert you to any problems like overdrawn accounts.

CoCard’s Check Conversion solution lets you convert customers’ checks into electronic documents to deposit funds directly into your account. Funds deposit faster with electronic conversion than with a typical paper check.

Gift Cards

CoCard offers electronic gift cards that are customizable. Choose from several options, including denominated or non-denominated cards, refundable or non-refundable, and expiring or non-expiring.

Internet

Accept payments online with CoCard’s internet processing gateway, the EFT Gateway. The gateway boasts instant transaction approvals, real-time transaction history available online, customized reporting, and multiple types of cards accepted.
For clients needing another option, CoCard also offers Authorize.Net gateways. Authorize.Net gateways allow an unlimited number of transactions and can help you process payments online, by mail, or by phone.

EBT

If you have a government benefits acceptance program, CoCard can help process EBT transactions such as food stamps, WIC, and TANF. You will need to provide CoCard your EBT number to get set up.

What about equipment and software?

CoCard has a variety of terminals and software available to help ensure and simplify transactions. CoCard offers:

Credit Card Processing Software

CoCard’s EFT client turns your computer into a credit card machine to allow you to easily accept all major credit and debit cards, as well as convert checks electronically. The EFT client works with CoCard’s EFT payment processing gateway. An internet connection is required.

CoCard is also compatible with Verifone PC Charge. This program offers transaction processing, security features, and methods of reporting. It can be run with the internet or a standard phone line.

Terminals

CoCard offers several terminals with a variety of options, including wireless models, combination terminal/printers, and stand-alone credit card machines. CoCard offers popular models from brands like Verifone, Hypercom, Nurit, and Omni.

PIN Pads

CoCard offers the secure Verifone PIN Pad 1000 with a large, easy-to-read display for customers paying with PIN-based debit cards.

Rates and Contract Terms

CoCard offers a service on their website called InstaRate Quote to give you custom price quoting with results delivered instantly by email. However, as you may know, rates can be manipulated to look much better than they really are and hidden fees may be lurking around the corner.

CoCard Reviews and Online Reputation

CoCard Merchant Services online presence is a bit sparse. It is not currently accredited with the Better Business Bureau, but does have a profile on the BBB’s site. CoCard currently has an A+ rating and no complaints with the BBB in the past 3 years. Similarly, both Yelp and Google reviews are eerily quiet.

One place that CoCard seems to have drawn a crowd is Ripoff Report. There are currently 7 unhappy reviews. One review claims dishonest sales practices, like being unwittingly roped into equipment leases and unnecessary software. Another alleges dishonest business practices including cheating taxes and forgery. Others claim that the company will go back on its word, failing to provide services it said it would or charging cancellation and other fees when it said it wouldn’t. One reviewer writes of the company’s convoluted pricing that it will use against you in the form of hidden fees. Finally, the most recent review from 2014 states that if you go into business with CoCard, you will want a lawyer to go over the fine print.

CoCard sells its processing services through a large network of sales offices across the United States. Its large sales force sets pricing and terms on a per-business basis. For this reason, the competitiveness of the pricing and terms you will receive from CoCard is directly dependant on how well you've educated yourself about how processing fees truly work.
