The systems is compatible with several types of card readers (including Magtek, PAX, and Verifone) to allow you to securely swipe customers' credit and debit cards.

Lavu offers a "cash discount" program designed to help business owners defray the cost of credit card processing by encouraging customers to pay with cash instead.
When using the cash discount program, Lavu applies a "non-cash adjustment" fee to the bill. Diners can avoid that charge by instead choosing to pay with cash. The fee will remain on the bill for customers that choose to pay with a card. Lavu states that surveys show that a majority of customers (99.2%) don't mind the fee, but does not provide a source for the survey. Lavu lists benefits of the cash discount program, such as cutting processing fees and eliminating the need to raise menu prices.
It's worth reading up on cash discount and surcharge programs in your state. Some states have restrictions about credit card surcharges. Those restrictions may still come into play even when a processor or POS company refers to a cash discount program. Alternately, you can create a hardware package to fit your needs by contacting Lavu. In the past, the company has offered bundles, called starter kits, that package accessories into one "bundle" and published those bundles and pricing on their site. While the company no longer publishes such bundles, depending on a restaurant's size and needs, Lavu can still put together hardware packages. In the past, basic bundles included iPad stands and card readers, while more robust bundles added cash drawers, receipt printers, and more. Lavu is really great because it let's us cover all our management operations in one place. We don't have to use a bunch of different apps, everything is included and customer service is always there to help.
I absolutely love this point of sale system. Helps to be able to take orders from customers and send the order to the kitchen directly from the table. Then you can move on to the next table. It is so easy to learn and use. I like that you can go into the backside of the program and check your sales for the day, the number of hours that you worked for the week and also what your own statistics are for tables waited on, amount of food you sold and what the prices of everything are. It is so awesome!
Very versatile and easy to use. Easy to make modifications and adjustments within the system and customize to our specific operation.
We used this in an Italian restaurant that I was manager of. We were very high volume so we needed a good POS system that never crashed, and operated quickly to minimize the time spent waiting on the system to perform basic key functions. I think in that regard, this is a great system and I would recommend it to anyone.
Customer Service from hell! Me or my rep stayed on the phone with them for hours on end and nothing was EVER different after the calls. You will see if you have the system. You will be on the phone with countless people, they just keep changing people or putting you on hold for an absurd amount of time. Oh yeah, the best part is basically it will take months for them to finally cancel your service, one excuse after another. Tremendous waste of time, labor, stress, and money. What a mistake it was taking them on. PS, We are just a deli and it didn't work for us.
The inventory system does not work, customer service is terrible, and technical support is out of India and they have no clue about the system. Very frustrating.
This is a terrible system. We used it for 5 years in our restaurant and regret much of it. The customer service is poor. The wait times are usually pretty reasonable, but in the beginning during initial set up I would wait for literally hours to fix issues. We lose items off customer bills randomly and sometimes an order never makes it to the kitchen or bar. Staff has no confidence in LAVU largely because of that. They have to deal with the angry customers. I gave them every opportunity in the world to improve but it just gets worse. They also lie to appease you in the moment. There were too many issues to discuss. I’m not disgruntled I am being factual. Steer clear.
The Lavu POS has plenty of handy features, especially for restaurants. Downside is that it's not Android compatible.
