Authorize.Net Mobile Review

Smartphone/Tablet

You can accept payments securely from an Android or Apple mobile device with a free Authorize.Net Mobile app. The Mobile app is only available to businesses with an Authorize.Net account.

The app provides real-time transaction processing for signature-based debit cards and all major credit cards, including MasterCard, Visa, Discover, American Express, Diners’ Club, and JCB. Mobile apps allow you to accept payments almost anywhere, even when away from a traditional storefront or payment terminal.

Secure card readers are available for businesses who prefer to swipe cards at the time of sale. Card readers are sold separately. Only Authorize.Net secured card readers will work with the Authorize.Net Mobile app. Card readers connect through a standard 3.5mm headphone jack.

In addition to fast payment acceptance, you can perform a range of other functions from the mobile device with app, including setting up default tax rates, accepting tips, recording shipping information, reviewing transactions, process refunds and voids, and more. You can also opt to send customers an email receipt for transactions. Receipts can be customized with business information for seamless branding.

For businesses that use QuickBooks, Authorize.Net Mobile utilizes Sync for QuickBooks to automatically import settled transactions into your existing QuickBooks account for easy reconciliation and tracking.

An included online account helps make tracking and managing business easy. With the online account, you can review transactions, view account statements, download reports, and more. The online account is accessible through a password-protected website for extra security. You can set up multiple users and control what features the users have access to.

Security

Multiple security features are in place with the Authorize.Net Mobile app. The app complies with PCI DSS requirements. Additionally, you can enter the cardholder’s zip code to use the Address Verification Service. With the Address Verification Service, the information provided by the customer is checked against the information on file with the credit card company to ensure authorized card use. For extra safety, the Mobile app will automatically log out after 30 minutes of inactivity and require users to log back in with their password.

Features

For fast payment processing and comprehensive reporting, the Authorize.Net Mobile solution works with a number of popular smartphones and tablets. Additionally, an optional card reader provides easy swiped transaction processing.

The readers that work with Authorize.Net mobile can't take chip cards yet, but Authorize.Net says that they expect that functionality in 2016. When that happens, it might get a higher star rating, but for now it's 2 stars due to not taking chip cards.
