ePN's iEMVPay Review

Smartphone/Tablet

The iEMVPay reader is the newest model available from ePN for mobile processing. The reader allows you to take traditional magnetic stripe credit and debit cards or new EMV chip cards with the same device, unlike the original magstripe-only model.

The reader connects to your smartphone or tablet, the same as your current reader, and allows you to take advantage of swiped transaction rates, which are often lower than keyed transactions. If you’re already using the magstripe ePN reader and are looking to upgrade so you can take chip cards, this is the reader you’ll need. If you don’t currently use a mobile reader and are looking for one for the first time, here’s what you need to know about the iEMVPay reader from ePN.

Using the iEMVPay Reader

The iEMVPay reader requires the ePNMobile app in order to process transactions with your smartphone or tablet. ePNMobile supports Android and Apple devices, including iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. To download and use the ePNMobile app, you’ll need a merchant account with an ePN-compatible processor.

Features

Once you’re up and running with the app, you’ll be able to accept signature debit cards and major credit cards, including Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover. You can also choose to add taxes and allow customers to enter tips. On some devices, your customers can even sign for purchases right on the screen of the tablet or smartphone so that you don’t need to keep paper receipts around.

More than one smartphone or tablet can be linked to your account, providing flexibility for when you have multiple devices that can take payments. That’s a great option for businesses that plan to have several business tablets or phones for multiple staff members who all need to take cards. The number of connected devices doesn’t affect your reporting, either. You’ll be able to see details of transactions for every connected mobile device in one centralized location.

Security

For security, card details for transactions processed on your phone with the iEMVPay reader are never stored on your smartphone or tablet. Information is secured on the PCI compliant ePN cloud-based gateway. Additionally, the iEMVPay reader is EMV Level 1 and Level 2 certified.

Compatibility

The ePNMobile app (required for using the iEMVPay reader) is compatible with Android and iOS (Apple) operating systems. The iEMVPay reader connects to smartphones and tablets through a standard headphone jack.

Pricing for iEMVPay

The cost of the reader itself will vary depending on where you purchase it. Costs for your credit card processing to actually use the reader are set by the credit card processing company that you choose to handle your credit card sales.
