Braintree works efficiently. Their approved PCI compliance company Securitymetrics wants to charge me £650 for a mandatory security document written by lawyers, a document I will probably never read. It feels like a scam.

Working with Braintree was a f**king nightmare. They approved my account and after a month of integration work (which was not easy) I was ready to go. I launch my product and after a small number of transactions (the exact transactions I told them I did in my application) they froze my account. They then closed the account. This meant I had to contact all my customers who were on a monthly payment plan and work to move them to a new payment method. A terrible company and experience.

Braintree stole my money and stole my clients and deleted my account without warning even after providing them a ridiculous amount of verification information. I believe they were just trying to steal my information!

If I could rate less than one star, I would. This company represents the single worst customer service experience I have ever had. They request far more personal documentation than anyone else (citing 'compliance requirements'), are slow to process, and the staff literally asked for the same things 4-5 times, EVEN when attachments were included and referenced by exact name. We will NEVER do business again.

If you're a tech team, Braintree works great. Robust functionality, lots of customization, lots of options and ways to make things work exactly the way you want. The downside is that Braintree is not particularly helpful if you don't have that technical team. Trying to get some help changing some merchant data? Good luck getting their support to do it, unless you're willing to call multiple times until you find someone who will finally agree they can do it and will tell you how. Otherwise they'll all just say "oh, you can do that through the API".

Braintree, which is now a PayPal company, is an e-commerce processor that focuses on developers and integration. Like its parent company, Braintree sticks to an ultra-bundled approach to pricing with a single rate and transaction fee.
