SalonTarget Review

POS Systems

If the name didn't give it away, SalonTarget is a POS system specifically designed by salon owners, for salon owners. The cloud-based system allows you to access your data anywhere that you have an internet connection.

SalonTarget is based in Massachusetts, but serves customers across the United States. If you’re in the market for a POS system for your salon, here’s what you need to know about SalonTarget’s features, reviews, and costs.

SalonTarget Features

SalonTarget is available in two versions, called Front Desk and Premiere. The Front Desk version is a point of sale system for the reception/sign in area, while the Premiere version is installed at stylists’ stations.

The Premiere version includes advanced features like targeted ads on the touchscreen display and allowing stylists to send requests to the reception desk display if they need assistance.

For both systems, the point of sale software includes plenty of features for salon management, marketing, and payments. The system allows for online booking, email surveys of clients, automatic appointment confirmations, and rebooking. You can also control access to the system, setting permissions individually to employees and limiting them to only the functions they need to use for their jobs.

Appointment Booking and Queue

There are several options for booking appointments with SalonTarget. Online, clients can book new appointments, rebook previous appointments, choose their favorite stylist, or opt for next-available stylist. Your clients can also manage their account to opt-in to automatic reminders or emails that include coupons and promotions.

On the business side, you can set specific hours for online booking, limit the number of services a single client can book, run promotions, show or hide pricing, and more. The system will also send confirmations when clients book an appointment so both you and the client know it went through.

Your customers aren’t required to book online, though. You can also book an appointment quickly from the system itself. You can create standing appointments or one-time bookings, process cancellations, and choose whether to allow overbooking.

The queue screen lets you quickly see who has an appointment upcoming, who has already arrived for their appointment, and who is checking out. You can also view any past due client balances or products in their online shopping carts.

Payments

All steps to a payment can be completed within the SalonTarget system, from charging for salon services or products to accepting gift cards or allowing customers to add a gratuity for their stylist. You can also easily void transactions or issue refunds from the same payment screen for quick checkout.

If you want to accept credit cards, you’ll need a compatible merchant account. Jump down to Credit Card Processing with SalonTarget (below) for more information.

Surveys and Reviews

Customer feedback is important, and SalonTarget helps you collect it easily. An integrated email and text messaging system lets you thank first-time customers and add surveys to get a feel for what your clients liked and what needs work.

Salon Target surveys

You can choose from SalonTarget’s pre-made surveys, or create your own custom survey. Additionally, you can collect reviews from customers, which can be posted directly to your site when you approve them.

Salon Target reviews

If reviews warrant a response, you can do that with one click.

Confirmations and Rebooking

When your clients make an appointment, you can set an automatic confirmation sent by email, text, or voice message. You can even choose to be alerted if the customer isn’t reached by the confirmation, and send same-day reminders prior to your customer’s appointment to help cut down on no-shows that cost your salon. If your client wants to book a future appointment, you can rebook from their customer history.

SalonTarget Credit Card Processing

SalonTarget partners with Bluefin Payment Systems for credit card processing, meaning that if you want to take credit cards through your POS system, you’ll need to have an account with Bluefin. Additionally, Bluefin Payments (not SalonTarget) sets your pricing for credit card transactions.

While the company guarantees that it will beat or match your current rates, be aware that there are sometimes pitfalls to credit card processing rate matches.

Inventory Management

If your salon also sells products like haircare supplies, you can keep track of them in the SalonTarget product dashboard. You can group similar products together to recommend to clients when they pay, allowing for easy upselling of complete solutions.

Reports and Data

SalonTarget provides both quick-view and detailed reporting to give you a better understanding of your salon’s sales and performance.

You’ll be able to view data such as number of clients, sales, total appointments, booking method for appointments, gift card usage, and more.

Hardware

SalonTarget software works with PC and Mac, but you’ll need a current operating system - Windows 8 or higher, and Mac OS-X 8 or higher - and the Chrome web browser. Additionally, SalonTarget recommends widescreen monitors at least 1,200px wide and a fast enough internet connection to support SalonTarget software. (The company suggests at least 8mbps upload and 10mbps download speed.)

Lastly, the company strongly suggests using a dedicated computer for your POS system and not accessing other programs or websites from that computer.

How much does SalonTarget cost?

SalonTarget doesn’t publish costs for its software, though the review site Capterra states that the starting price is $99/month. The actual cost you’ll pay will depend on whether you choose the Front Desk or Premiere version. Additionally, costs for credit card processing are separate and will be determined by Bluefin Payment Systems, the integrated credit card processor that works with SalonTarget.

SalonTarget Reviews

SalonTarget doesn’t have a lot of reviews on independent websites like Yelp or Google reviews. The company does have a Better Business Bureau profile with an A+ rating, but doesn’t have any reviews from clients on the BBB page.

On its website, SalonTarget offers customer testimonials in both text and video form. Customers praise the company for acting as a consulting partner to help their clients, and for creating a system that helps maximize productivity. Reviewers like SalonTarget’s ease of use and convenience in tracking sales and re-bookings. Some reviewers mentioned that the system cut down on customer time at the front desk, while others mentioned that support and training is top notch. One client mentioned that the cloud-based system is convenient for staff to check their schedule from home.

Testimonials include the reviewer’s name and salon name.

SalonTarget has plenty of good features for salons, but not a fan of the limited choice of processor. (You have to use Bluefin Payments.)
