ASI offers two POS systems for liquor stores: Spirits 2000 and Spirits Express. Spirits 2000 is designed for stores with more than two cash registers, while Spirits Express is meant for retail liquor outlets with one to two registers. Read on to learn whether these POS solutions are the right fit for you.

What You’ll Need

Spirits 2000 and Spirits Express are POS software, so in order to run them you’ll need to purchase hardware. ASI offers several compatible hardware options, including a register, workstation, and a server. The hardware includes a cash drawer and scanner.

You’ll also need a merchant account with a credit card processor. Spirits 2000 isn’t limited to one processing company, but the choices aren’t unlimited. (See the section on credit card processing below for more details.)

Spirits 2000 Features

Spirits 2000 aims to pack as many features into a single POS system as possible. It includes automatic discounting, the ability to send emails to customers, a loyalty program, gift card processing, inventory control, QuickBooks integration, age verification, e-commerce functionality, an employee time clock, the capability to build gift baskets, certified credit card processing, label printing, the ability to add seasonal products, remote access, and data synchronization.

Businesses can utilize the “suggested orders” option to automatically create orders based on the lowest cost vendor. The suggested orders feature can also indicate the ideal stock levels for a given period of time.

QuickBooks Integration

QuickBooks is one of the most popular accounting software programs out there. Spirits 2000 integrates with it, so you can quickly see financial information without leaving the POS interface.

Age Verification

Don’t break a single regulation by selling alcohol to a minor. Spirits 2000 includes an age verification feature to ensure the customer is over 21.

Spirits Express has many of the same features as Spirits 2000, although it’s meant for stores with up to two cash registers. The Express version of this POS system manages inventory, tracks sales, allows employees to clock in and out, synchs data between workstations, and is certified PA-DSS compliant.

Spirits 2000 and Spirits Express Credit Card Processing

Spirits 2000 and Spirits Express’ websites don’t publish credit card processing costs, because the POS solution developer isn’t a credit card processor. Your credit card processing company will set this cost and fees are in addition to the POS software and the hardware and accessories you may need to purchase.

Spirits 2000 comes with the Spirits Integrated Payment System (SIPS) program, which is compatible with payment processors WorldPay and Mercury Payment Systems. Additionally, Spirits 2000 is compatible with gateway PC Charge. If you want to use Spirits 2000 to take credit and debit cards, you’ll need a merchant account with WorldPay, Mercury Payment Systems, or a PC Charge-compatible processor.
