ePNMobile Review

Smartphone/Tablet

The ePN Mobile credit card reader is an option for taking cards when your business is on the road. It works with both Android and Apple devices, and you can even add optional accessories like cash drawers, external printers, and barcode scanners.

Note that this reader cannot take EMV chip cards. (However the new iEMV Pay from ePN can.) If you run a chip credit card using the magnetic strip on the card, you’ll be liable for any fraudulent activity. If you’re just purchasing a mobile reader now, it may be worthwhile to consider an EMV-capable option.

The most recent version of the Android and iOS ePN apps support Bluetooth wireless card readers, too. If you’re looking to take credit cards in different locations on a regular basis, here’s what you need to know about ePN Mobile.

Using ePN Mobile

To use ePN Mobile, you’ll need a merchant account with eProcessing Network, the credit card processing company who owns it, or a compatible processor. The eProcessing Network (ePN) offers the card reader and the accompanying app.

Features

While mobile readers don’t necessarily offer as many functions as a countertop terminal or a POS system, they still have plenty of features for basic operations. For payment acceptance, ePN Mobile’s features include signature capture for obtaining customers’ signatures, the ability to automatically calculate tax or add tips to the total, and an option to email receipts. If you don’t want to send receipts, you can add a printer instead. Authorizations are done in real-time for convenience.

On the business management side of things, ePN Mobile features accounting application integration and basic inventory management for tracking stock. An option to add multiple devices to a single account is also available, which can be a big help to businesses that use multiple phones or tablets among staff. No matter how many devices you link, you’ll be able to view transaction information from a centralized reporting system.

Hardware

This reader only accepts magnetic stripe cards. It does not take EMV chip cards or NFC (contactless) payments like Apple Pay. The reader is rechargeable and connects to a variety of Apple and Android devices using a standard 3.5mm headphone jack.

Security

ePN Mobile is PCI compliant. More specifically, its mobile card reader is Level 1 and Level 2 PCI compliant.

Transaction data is never stored on your mobile device or within the card reader – ePN’s gateway stores it. The card reader is encrypted, so unauthorized parties will never see customer credit card data. ePN Mobile also utilizes CVV2 (the additional numbers on the back of a credit card) and AVS (address verification) for extra security. As a bonus, the use of CVV2 and AVS may qualify you for lower costs per swiped credit card transaction.

Reporting

ePN Mobile works with another eProcessing Network product, ePN Sync, so you can view reports. ePN Sync synchronizes transaction data with QuickBooks, so you receive detailed reports on transactions and batch processing. The synchronization process is automated, so you don’t have to do it yourself.

Pricing for ePN Mobile

The credit card reader itself is inexpensive, though the exact costs will vary depending on where you purchase it. The costs for accepting credit cards using the reader will be set by ePN or the processor and will be specific to your business.

I just downloaded the app last week. I am a driving instructor. My clients information is super sensitive. I processed 4 transactions last week with a turn around time of 2 days. The day my funds were to be deposited they were diverted to another account in Houston. I have been told my funds where to be deposited the following day - twice no funds. I was told by a representative that they would be sending me an email by the end of the day. Never received it. Now that I've sent documents they want me to wait another 2 days and the weekend to even know if they are going to give my funds back. They keep giving me the run around and this was a waste of time. The customer service is horrible. They need to be shut down. Please save yourself a headache and DO NOT use this company. I will be also having the BBB look into them. This was the worst experience ever.

Recently got the ePN Premier Verify SC. This thing is a piece of crap, support is non existent. The app is a joke as well, the only way to close it is to keep hitting the back button on your phone or tablet, then you are still logged in. I'm sure it's going to be a fight to get my money back but I can't process 1 transaction with this device. And the app was designed by someone who's never sold anything to anyone and wants his devices kept secure.

Very sorry customer service. I have a remodeling company, I work with a budget and they make payments to me. They give me payments when a certain project is completed. They keep my deposit and screw up my payroll and I cannot buy materials needed to finish jobs. Sorry ASS company. Will not recommend them to anyone AT ALL.

They charged 40 dollars every month for six months even though I didn't use the service. The reader never worked. SCAM.

This reader is not comptible with EMV chip cards. (The newer ePN mobile credit card readers can take EMV chip cards, which is cool.)
