If you’re looking for a way to take credit cards using a computer, you’ll need a gateway. CardPointe is available for businesses in a variety of industries, but may be particularly helpful for businesses that accept a lot of commercial credit cards. Read on for information on the services and costs.
Like all gateways, the CardPointe gateway is necessary for taking credit cards online, by mail, or by phone. It’s available from CardConnect and any processing company that’s compatible with CardConnect. The CardPointe gateway also powers the Ingenico/CardPointe countertop terminal, allowing it to be used for the more specific requirements of accepting commercial credit cards.
The CardPointe gateway offers features to allow you to take credit cards online, in person, using a virtual terminal, or with a recurring billing option. As mentioned earlier, it also complies with requirements for commercial card acceptance. CardPointe integrates with Quickbooks Pro, Premier, Enterprise and POS. QB Online integration is coming soon.
CardPointe utilizes real-time transaction management that allows you to not only accept payments, but process voids and refund transactions as necessary. You’ll be able to take major credit and debit cards, send receipts to customers, and view reports. You can use the compatible Ingenico terminal to take payments in person, or the mobile app if you’re accepting cards on the go.
The CardPointe gateway powers a virtual terminal that allows you to take credit cards by phone or mail using your computer. As long as you have an internet connection, you can access a secure form to input cardholder information. Cardholder data isn’t stored on your computer, helping ensure security for you and your customers.
If you prefer to use your computer to take cards in person as well, you can still use a virtual terminal to do that. However, you may want to connect an optional USB or Bluetooth card reader to swipe credit cards, as you may be eligible for lower costs and increased security by swiping instead of manually keying in cards.
Businesses that need to charge customers on a set schedule can take advantage of the gateway’s recurring billing option, eliminating the need to manually re-enter payment information every time you want to charge a customer. Secure customer profiles let you easily manage clients.
If you take a lot of business or purchasing credit cards, you may be eligible for lower costs if you take certain steps. Notably, you’re required to send additional information with the transaction at the time of purchase. CardPointe’s system is set up to send that data for you automatically, giving you the best of both worlds: the lower costs associated with enhanced data and the convenience of auto-fill fields.
Taking commercial cards without sending the additional data will cost you more, so it’s very important to take the right steps to ensure you’re getting the lowest costs.

The costs for using CardPointe vary by processor. If you’re currently taking credit cards, you can contact your existing processing company to find out if it supports CardPointe and how much it costs. If you don’t have a processor (or are considering switching), you can use the CardFellow quote request tool to see pricing from processors that support CardPointe.
Worst company ever. Please do some research before signing up with any of these card processing companies. Customer service is horrible and you can send them documentation multiple times, yet they'll keep asking. Plus, no follow up. Rude agents.
Terrible. They also are called Clover Connect. Cardpointe promised one rate roughly 3% through their sales person. Delivered on their word for one year. And then over the course of months and years increased my credit card processing fees to nearly 6%. They gained my trust, I stopped carefully watching my bills and they took advantage of me overcharging 1000's of dollars. I would stay far away from this company.
Seriously. Run from this company. They are a nightmare to work with. These people are disorganized, rude, unavailable, and cost us countless hours of following up on basic issues.
If you are thinking about using this processor - don't. So many errors. You will spend 3 or 4 hours on the phone being transferred back and forth with no one having any idea ho to fix their own issue. Then, it will become your issue, even though it isn't. Now when I call, I can literally tell them what their answer will be and what their next step will be, and the one after that. Cards are always being authorized but not captured. In 2020 they even withheld 6 months of card payments because it was covid and I was issuing refunds then dumped them in our account in one lump sum with no way to balance. Our auditors had a field day with that one. We are switching in a few months and I could not be happier!
I don't review many companies but I must warn future customers of their unfair business practices. Too many issues to list but the biggest is the fee's they charge for non compliance and now annual fees. There are many other companies out there doing a much better job.
I'm in the same boat as others. My account went to Credit Risk department a week ago. I cannot get anyone to reply to emails, and there's no direct phone contact. They are holding $300K. I've been an online retailer for 20 years. Stay away.
Do not use CardPointe. They are a bunch of thieves. Worst experience ever… They’ve been on the sneak doing extra charges and taking money out of my account.
Well, here it is 7 days later and I still don't have my money. This place is complete trash. Try to talk to them, and they're rude and keep sending you to other departments to talk to someone else. Just to get nowhere! Had 2 more transactions from customers paying their regular payments. They've decided to just hold on to that now too. I suggest anyone wanting to use them -- do not! This has been a nightmare. Running a business and not making any money for a week is not how things should work.
Total garbage. I had $4k in transactions held up for 3 days. I finally reached someone at customer service and was told they'll send me an e-mail to fix the issue in 3-4 business days. They claim they can't reach anyone directly at the risk management department, which is supposedly where the issue is. Worst customer service ever!
Absolutely terrible...some of the worst service I've ever experienced. They have no email support for merchants, and their phone support is a disgrace. Most recently, they couldn't explain why a customer's payment was failing but claimed that it had gone through on their end and that we would see it in our next batch, but of course, we never did. Even their security/fraud department goes to voicemail during business hours, and they never call back. These people have absolutely zero respect for their customers. Use anyone else.
Absolutely horrible customer service. Ended the call and hung up on me at the end.
I have had a horrible experience with cardpointe! My account was canceled in October of 2022, however I am told now that the account was open. Now they have charged me a fee of 199.00 dollars for "account security services" and say that I will not be refunded this charge. I would not recommend this service to anyone ever! I had to give them one star but they don't even deserve that!
After receiving high charges every month for compliance fees and non use fees I decided to cancel my account. I contacted customer support. They stated I needed to file a cancelation from and send it to cardpoitesupport@cardconnect.com. On September 27th of this year I emailed them this form. I am still being charged a monthly fee! I contacted customer support, my merchant number is no longer recognized. After waiting on line for over 20 minutes, I was told by the reprehensive that "I did everything right", I provided the correct form and this was a mistake on their end. Due to the account being closed he could not rectify the matter and needed to transfer me to the cancelation department, after he placed notes on the call, he transferred me. Kristen in the cancelation department... who proceeded to tell me I sent the form to the wrong department and I needed to resend. When I told her what customer support stated... her response was "they were wrong" he didn't know what he was talking about. This company will give you the run-around when trying to cancel and will provide you the wrong information to delay the "cancelation of your account so they can continue charging you. They will then hold your responsible for not following the proper procedure. I doubt I will receive the money back.
If you are a business absolutely do not consider these folks for merchant. After enduring the high fees for years we wanted to switch and it was literally a 2 hour phone call getting transferred a dozen times and waiting forever. Rude and unprofessional customer service.
I used this company for years, then all of a sudden I am getting surplus charges of $125.00 for compliance fees, and then a few months later another fee for $119.95, and then two months later a $119.00 membership fee. These charges were not authorized by me and I was not told in advance that I would be charged these fees. This is a very unscrupulous business and I would highly recommend that anyone considering using credit card processing use any other company.
I have had a terrible experience with CardPointe so far. It is impossible to get in touch with their customer service team and my reports from CardPointe have not matched my company's reporting system. They promised me many things in our meeting over the phone claiming to be so much better than our previous processor, and instead I have had headache after headache trying to deal with this mess. I would like to switch back to my old payment processor, but looking at these reviews I am afraid they will continue to charge us.
Its a total scam, they offer different rates and charge another. Initially offered me to save money and ended up charging me more than my older processors.
Signed up with them in 2019. Their devices didn't work so I cancelled. I have been continuously charged for 2 years at 54.95 a month, then $173 a few random months because they said I need to provide them proof I cancelled.
I don’t recommend them. They charged me $41 with no transactions and $5 for 4 declined charges. The representative was rude too. I called him many times and left messages, but he didn’t answer. Complete rip off.
The customer service is so bad and unbelievably rude.
