CardPointe Gateway Review

Gateways

The CardPointe gateway is the piece that enables credit card payments using the CardPointe platform, which has online and in-person options.

If you’re looking for a way to take credit cards using a computer, you’ll need a gateway. CardPointe is available for businesses in a variety of industries, but may be particularly helpful for businesses that accept a lot of commercial credit cards. Read on for information on the services and costs.

What is the CardPointe gateway?

Like all gateways, the CardPointe gateway is necessary for taking credit cards online, by mail, or by phone. It’s available from CardConnect and any processing company that’s compatible with CardConnect. The CardPointe gateway also powers the Ingenico/CardPointe countertop terminal, allowing it to be used for the more specific requirements of accepting commercial credit cards.

CardPointe Features

The CardPointe gateway offers features to allow you to take credit cards online, in person, using a virtual terminal, or with a recurring billing option. As mentioned earlier, it also complies with requirements for commercial card acceptance. CardPointe integrates with Quickbooks Pro, Premier, Enterprise and POS. QB Online integration is coming soon.

Credit Card Processing

CardPointe utilizes real-time transaction management that allows you to not only accept payments, but process voids and refund transactions as necessary. You’ll be able to take major credit and debit cards, send receipts to customers, and view reports. You can use the compatible Ingenico terminal to take payments in person, or the mobile app if you’re accepting cards on the go.

Virtual Terminal

The CardPointe gateway powers a virtual terminal that allows you to take credit cards by phone or mail using your computer. As long as you have an internet connection, you can access a secure form to input cardholder information. Cardholder data isn’t stored on your computer, helping ensure security for you and your customers.

If you prefer to use your computer to take cards in person as well, you can still use a virtual terminal to do that. However, you may want to connect an optional USB or Bluetooth card reader to swipe credit cards, as you may be eligible for lower costs and increased security by swiping instead of manually keying in cards.

Recurring Billing

Businesses that need to charge customers on a set schedule can take advantage of the gateway’s recurring billing option, eliminating the need to manually re-enter payment information every time you want to charge a customer. Secure customer profiles let you easily manage clients.

Commercial Card Acceptance

If you take a lot of business or purchasing credit cards, you may be eligible for lower costs if you take certain steps. Notably, you’re required to send additional information with the transaction at the time of purchase. CardPointe’s system is set up to send that data for you automatically, giving you the best of both worlds: the lower costs associated with enhanced data and the convenience of auto-fill fields.

Taking commercial cards without sending the additional data will cost you more, so it’s very important to take the right steps to ensure you’re getting the lowest costs.

What does CardPointe cost?

The costs for using CardPointe vary by processor. If you’re currently taking credit cards, you can contact your existing processing company to find out if it supports CardPointe and how much it costs. If you don’t have a processor (or are considering switching), you can use the CardFellow quote request tool to see pricing from processors that support CardPointe.

I don’t recommend them. They charged me $41 with no transactions and $5 for 4 declined charges. The representative was rude too. I called him many times and left messages, but he didn’t answer. Complete rip off.

The customer service is so bad and unbelievably rude.

CardPointe was referred to me by my computer software company. I ended up going with Cardpointe/cardconnect by signing a 2 year contract that included the “All-in-one” machine. Within one month I had sent the machine back due to the fact that is was extremely slow. My rep said no problem and sent me free cheap chip reader that rarely connected. When I decided to change software companies, I contacted Cardpointe and they said in order to cancel I needed to pay the $1800 cancellation fee due to having the All-in-one machine. I expressed to them that I actually only had that in my possession for 1 month because I was unhappy with it. I won’t even go into how uneducated my rep was on the actual machine that she was selling, and the headaches that came along with that. I am a reasonable person and I understand that I signed the contract, but as a business owner I would never charge someone for a product that they were extremely unhappy with strait out of the gates and then to be so unclear with the fact that they would have to pay for it even if it wasn’t in my possession or being used at all. It also goes to show how much faith they have in their own product. “Oh it doesn’t work? Not our fault, you still owe for a product that is slow as a snail.” When I had a conversation with one of their managers he actually said, “You know we have to make money too ma’am” in which I responded with, “do you feel good about making money from a product that is not even being utilized?” I was able to talk them down to charging me only $900 for a product I never used. I am currently still paying the $54 a month that they are charging me for zero transactions, until I cancel because I’m having a hard time paying that full amount during COVID. This is the worst customer service I have ever been up against in my life.

Absolutely horrible. At first everything was great easy and simple. But all of a sudden cardpointe started to withhold money from us because "the transaction was higher than usual." Okay no problem, let's get all the paper work in to be able to get not only our payments but our clients'. Apparently it takes over a month to process with no clear end in sight of when we will get our money. We are having to use personal income to pay for expenses when there is money sitting in cardpointe that they refuse to give us. Will never ever use their services again.

Their product and their customer service is awful. It's the only payment integration option available for our CRM. From the beginning, no one gets back to you on time or provides the right information. Their funding reports, that show you what transactions match the deposits - it doesn't work. So you have to guess what transactions match the deposit. They just tell you to contact First Data to figure it out. It's their site and they can't figure it out, why would a whole other company be able to do it? Terrible. I have never read reviews for payment processors but this company has now made me think of doing that. I am seriously considering cancelling my service with them. They are such a headache and their customer service is genuinely terrible. If you have a choice, do not invest your time because it will be wasted.

Horrible customer service. Sold me a service and leased me a machine that is not compliant and billed me an extra 49.00 a month for their machine not being in compliance. I tried cancelling to no avail. They were taking 99.00 a month plus their transaction fees. I found out they have been ripping me off for 2 years and continue to bill me during the covid shut down even though there are zero transactions being processed as we are forced to close.

I too started out with BluePay and now it is CardPointe. I have had an AMAZINGLY bad time with these idiots. In 2018 they took thousands of dollars and sent it to the IRS because my business details didn't add up, according to their records. I then sent in all of the paperwork again and they continued doing the same thing in 2019, taking over $3,000 out of my account for the IRS. I canceled our service at the end of last year and got a different card reader and am happy. But despite what they said they would do - three times now - I have yet to receive a 1099 for 2019. It's a shame that the lowest rating is one star. They deserve a bucket of dirt. In my wildest, I can't imagine a company that handles itself in this way. Oh, and that's not all!! The 1-800 number on their monthly statement IS WRONG. Not like it goes to the wrong place. No, I could understand that. Their number brings back a recording that the number doesn't work. And I told them MONTHS ago that they had a problem and at least until the end of 2019, the wrong number was there. INSANE!

from Jocelyn, on Jan 22, 2020

CardPointe has the worst customer service. They opened two accounts in my name, didn’t record my email address in the application and the proceeded to withdraw random amounts of money from my business account each month. To date they have stolen close to $1400 from my small yoga studio. I’ve spent hours on the phone with them and have not been able to cancel my accounts or get a refund. They just keep withdrawing money. I’m going to file a suit in small claims court because I can’t get any customer service reps to help with these matters.

from Sue Hiltebeitel, on Oct 17, 2019

I started with Blue Pay then it became CardPointe. I was happy with them for the 2 years I was in business. 1 month AFTER I closed my business, I was charged 102.45 and 3 months after I closed I was charged 79.95. I called and emailed several times. I was told the first charge was for the prior month and would not be returned. The 79.95 charge was monthly fee charged on October 3 they said it wouldn't be refunded. I CLOSED my acct August 30! BEWARE AND CHECK YOUR STATEMENTS.

Card Network has made it so easy to manage my business! With CardPointe, I’ve been able to manage transactions in real-time from my phone and my desk. I love the advanced security of the hardware, too. Making sure my customers are safe from a data breach is very important, and the folks at Card Network make sure I’m never at-risk

from Krystle, on Jun 06, 2019

I was satisfied with the company for 2 years. Then all of a sudden I get double billed. I call and ask and they said they accidentally didn't charge me the correct amount for the month before. I called and was wondering why I didn't get any notice or why no one reached out to explain what was happening. The business said they don't reach out to customers they just bill the card. I get it I owe them money I just want good customer service to explain what's going on. They don't have a department or anything to deal with the customers directly. I could have at least got an email and they said they don't notify customers they just charge the account.

from Alex, on Sep 27, 2018

Cardconnect and Cardpointe have the best customer service of any merchant processor by far. I have never waited on hold to speak to a rep and they are always friendly and easy to understand. Merchant processors usually have horrible customer service. I have been so happily surprised every time I have needed to call them that I literally searched google to find out where I could write a review for them. If you are new to merchant processing and you haven't chosen cardpointe, you will likely find out the hard way that customer service is super important when things go wrong, like when you spill coffee on your terminal. I was not asked to write this review or paid to write this review and I am an actual customer.

The CardPointe gateway offers a convenient auto-fill option for the extra fields needed to get the best interchange rates for commercial cards. If you're a B2B business or even just take a lot of business cards, CardPointe may be able to help lower your interchange costs.
